Trophy House History
In 1970, The Trophy House, Inc. -- then known as Heraldic Plaques -- was created to produce and distribute military shield plaques to members of the United States Army.
In late 1969, John V. Keefe, Jr., a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, was serving as deputy Commander of the 6th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg. Where It All Began LTC Keefe wished to give the officers and senior NCOs of his unit a special keepsake that signified the 6th Special Forces. Not being able to find a suitable token, he set out to have one created. The design was simple, a wooden arrowhead shaped shield, with an enameled plate shaped like the flash that was worn on the Green Beret. This plaque was so well received that soon members of other Special Forces groups began to request them.
In the beginning, all the plaques were assembled and shipped out of the basement of his home with the help of his wife and three children. Upon LTC Keefe's retirement from the Army, he set out to grow the business, making it a full-time endeavor. First located in an 800 square foot retail location in historic Haymount, the company quickly outgrew this location, and undertook a series of expansions to handle an increasing customer demand for our quality products. At this point, LTC Keefe hired his first full time employee, Ms. Lisa Reed. In a few short years, The Trophy House became incorporated and moved into the 30,000 square foot facility at 3006 Bragg Blvd., from which it continues to operate as “The Largest Trophy Showroom in the Southeast United States”.
Over the years, The Trophy House has made distinctive awards for many distinguished people, including John Wayne, Bob Hope, Colin Powell, Ross Perot, General Hugh Shelton, Lee Greenwood, Faith Hill, Tiger Woods, almost every general officer that has ever been stationed at Fort Bragg, and former President George H. W. Bush.
In 2003, Jimmy Keefe assumed full ownership of The Trophy House, Inc. and is dedicated to continuing to high standards that our family has been entrusted. Coming up on our 45th year, The Trophy House, Inc. will continue to operate as we always have, providing our customers with a quality product on time and with courteous service.
